GENERAL INFORMATION RULES AND REGULATIONS
Please read carefully, failure to comply with these rules could result in disqualification.

Divisions:
Solo, Duet/Trio, Small Group (4-9), Large Group (10-18) Line (19 + with 3 min time limit) Extended Line (19+ with 5 min time limit) Production (19 and over)
Age Groups:
Contestants will compete in the following age groups broken down into
3 divisions. Petite(for soloists only): 4 and under. 5-6 yrs, 7-8 yrs Junior: 9-10 yrs, 11-12 yrs. Elite: 13-14 yrs, 15-16 yrs, 17-18 yrs, 19-21 yrs, 22 yrs and over and Teacher/Professional. For Duets/Trios, Small Groups, Lines and Production the average age determines the age division in which you fall. If the average age ends in .5 or above, it is then rounded up to the next age group. For numbers competing in jazz,tap & lyrical programs we ask that you provide the exact average age of the soloist or group. All ages are as of the first competition date.
Note: It is not necessary to provide a copy of each dancers birth certificate at the time of entry however we do suggest that these be on hand during the event day. Failure to provide accurate age, should a question arise, may result in disqualification.

1. A separate good quality tape or cd must be submitted with each entry. All tapes must be cued with the song title and contestant id# written on the label. Teachers should have a back up tape for each entry. All tapes should include the studio name, title of song, contestant number and teachers name.
Note: studio name may not be used for song title of routine.
Solos - $60.00 per person Duets/Trios - $75.00 per act
Groups - $23.00 per person Photogenic - $15.00 per photograph
Mr. and Miss. Dance Rave - $20.00 per person per solo.
Performance Categories:
Jazz - Routine must consist of primarily jazz technique. Only 3 gymnastics tricks allowed. A 1/2 of a point will be deducted for each additional gymnastic trick in this category. Deductions are taken from your total score.
Tap - Routine consisting of tap technique. Tap sounds may not be on recordings.
Lyrical Jazz - Routine consisting of jazz technique and modern ballet. Routine should demonstrate balance, extension, isolation’s and control.
Ballet - Routine must include classical steps and ballet technique.
Pointe - Routine must consist of Pointe/Toe technique.
Acrobatic Dance - Routine may contain gymnastic passes, walkovers, handstands etc. Choreography should be utilized blending movements together.
Character - A routine in which a character is portrayed such as television, movie, broadway, stereotype etc. Dance, gymnastics and lipsynching can all be incorporated.
Pom Pom - Routine must include such elements as marching, sharp movements, kicks, splits etc. Will be judged on pom pom technique, dance movements and choreography combined.
Open - Any of our listed categories or combinations of other listed categories.
Musical Theater - A routine in which music is utilized from a broadway, television, film or specialty show, Dancer is not required to portray the character.
Vocal - Routine may be any type of musical presentation. No lead voices permitted on tape..
Song and Dance - Routine must consist of vocal and dance. A microphone is not required however lipsynching is prohibited.
Folkloric - A routine consisting of ethnic style dancing such as polynesian, polka’s, hawaiian etc.
Clogging - Routine consisting of clogging technique. Clogging sounds may not be on recordings.
Hip Hop/Funk - Routine consisting of hip hop, funk or street technique.
Variety - An alternate category to our open category. Any of the above categories or combinations.
Modern - Routine must include modern technique.
Hip Hop/Funk- Routine may include jazz technique combined with hip hop and funk choreography. Acrobatics and break dancing is permitted.
Student Choreography - Routine may consist of any of the above performance categories and must be choreographed by the dancer performing.
Production - A group consisting of a minimum of 19 dancers incorporating any style of dance or acrobatic. Production category only has a limit of 8 min.

2. No live animals are permitted
3. Fire, Swords, Knives and other weapons are prohibited.
4. Props are permissible however must be pre-set and cleared from the stage within a 2 minute time frame.

5. Dance Rave has taken the liberty of providing you with the best conditions possible including a Marley dance surface. We ask that all participants check their shoes (primarily tap shoes) for loose screws, sharp heels, loose taps or anything that would potentially damage the surface of this floor.
6. Competing dancers may compete for 1 studio only.
7. Competing dancers and their teachers are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and general support of all participants.
8. Home video is prohibited, however a videographer will be provided if you wish to purchase any of your numbers. Picture taking O.K
9. Dance Rave and the facility in which the event is hosted is not responsible for personal injury or property loss.
10. Smoking is prohibited in the competition area.
11. All contestants authorize “Dance Rave” to use their photographs for any future materials promoting “ Dance Rave”.
12. A time schedule will be mailed or faxed within one week prior to the competition date.
13. “Dance Rave” reserves the right to add additional competition days or move the competition location due to unforeseen circumstances. Contestants must perform on the day and time designated on the schedule. If a contestant is unable to perform prior to his/her awards presentation they may perform on a different day however their results and award will not be presented on stage. Awards will be distributed privately.
14. There will be no refunds, however if a contestant is unable to compete due to medical reasons accompanied with a letter from a doctor, Dance Rave will issue a credit voucher which can be utilized for another regional competition the same year or the following.
15. To ensure an accurate schedule, dancers should be in costume and stage ready 5 numbers prior to their performance.
16. There will be a $10.00 charge for all returned checks
17. Admission is free and the general public is welcome to attend.
Judges Guidelines:
18. Each entry will be judged from a point system. A Platinum, Gold, High Silver or Low Silver award will be given based on scores. It is however possible to have multiple Platinum,Gold, and Silver place awards given in each age division for each category.
19. All scores and critiques from the judges are confidential to the individual contestant and teacher and are returned at the conclusion of each day. Decision of the judges is final.
20. If the judges feel a routine is inappropriate or a costume is too suggestive for family viewing, points will be deducted.
21. Performers may enter as many divisions as desired as long as they never compete against themselves.
22. Contestants must receive permission from the M.C if they are unable to perform in scheduled sequence.
23. No additional sound equipment or microphones may be used. “Dance Rave” will provide a corded microphone for Song and Dance and Vocal divisions only.
24. Only Platinum, Gold, and Silver winners will be eligible for the Grand Finals.
Dance Rave Regional Special Awards:
High Scoring Solo - Cash award for Petite, Junior and Elite age divisions.
High Scoring Duet/Trio - Cash award for Junior and Elite age divisions.
High Scoring Small Group - Cash award for Junior and Elite age divisions.
High Scoring Large Group - Cash award for Junior and Elite age divisions.
High Scoring Production - Cash award for Junior and Elite age divisions.
Outstanding Costume Award - This award is determined by the judges from the costumes scoring the high scores of the competition. All ages and categories will compete against each other for this award.
Photogenic Award - Award is presented to the solo contestant judged most photogenic. Entries must send in a recent 5x7 or 8x10 color or b-w photo with your entry form. Please write name and studio name on the back of photo. A $15 fee will apply per photo. You may enter this category the day of competition
Other Special Awards - Most Distinguished Performer, Top Studio, Most Entertaining, Most Outstanding Performer, Top Technique Award, Judges Choice Award, Best of Show, Top Choreography, Studio Spirit Award, Originality Award
“Dance Rave Participation Award” - This award is granted to the studio achieving the highest level of entries. The winner will receive a $200.00 gift certificate valid for entry fees to the Grand Championships.
Note: There must be a minimum of 5 acts in a Petite, Junior and Elite category for a cash prize to be awarded.
All cash awards will be issued up to 45 days after competition. These awards are made payable to the instructor or director.

RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE 40 DAYS PRIOR TO THE COMPETITION DATE
In order to determine the competition schedule, studios must call our office 40 days prior to the competition date to reserve the number of entries they will be submiting.
All entry fees and forms must be in our office 30 days prior to the event.
(No phone or fax entries will be accepted unless otherwise authorized by a Dance Rave representative)
